With this project, we aim to provide a sustainable and socially impactful solution to the plastic problem in and around Moshi, Tanzania. Our idea involves building and deploying a mobile recycling bus— a converted vehicle that collects, shreds, and processes plastic into new products. Through this innovative concept, we focus on three key areas: education, the environment, and employment.
The bus will be equipped with three injection machines and will serve as a mobile learning and production center. Around the bus, we will set up educational information boards explaining the different types of plastic, how long they take to decompose in nature, and their harmful effects on animals and ecosystems. We will visit schools and villages, actively involving children (especially between the ages of 4 and 13), teachers, and other community members.
The concept: residents collect plastic in their community, bring it to the bus, and—under guidance—transform it into a new product. This way, we make the recycling process tangible, educational, and motivating.
A key goal of this project is to reduce plastic pollution in the region. We will set up collection points, including one at a local hostel, and organize cleanups in natural areas. For these activities, we will provide appropriate equipment to ensure safety and efficiency. The bus will serve as a central hub where the collected plastic is processed into useful products, helping to raise awareness about waste and sustainability.
The project creates both direct and indirect employment opportunities. We will provide training for local individuals who want to learn how to operate the machines or assist with the conversion and maintenance of the bus. In addition, we will need a driver, an educational facilitator, and potentially a salesperson for the end products. We distinguish between one-time jobs (such as technical conversion) and long-term roles (such as drivers or educational staff). Our aim is to involve and train as many local people as possible, ensuring the project is sustainably supported and driven by the community itself.
